У статті подано інформацію про експедиційні та картографічні дослідження ХVІ- XVІІІ століть, що стосувались характеристики території України, фізико-географічних та соціально-економічних особливостей різних її регіонів, міст та сіл. Проаналізовано внесок російських та польських географів та картографів у розвиток географічної науки.
Considered in this paper are expeditional and mapping researches of XVI-XVIII centuries, concerning Ukraine territorial characteristics, physiographic and socioeconomic features of different regions, towns and rural areas. Analyzed also is the contribution of Russian and Polish geographers into development of geographical science.
