Висвітлено заснування і діяльність у м. Харкові першої в колишньому СРСР лабораторіїнасінництва й насіннєзнавства Українського науково-дослідного інституту рослинництва, генетики і селекції ім. В.Я. Юр"єва. Проаналізовано життєвий і творчий шлях видатноговітчизняного вченого зі світовим ім"ям в галузі насінництва й насіннєзнавства Івана ГригоровичаСтрони. Доведено історично-вирішальну роль першого завідувача лабораторії наукової установи. Показано вагомі здобутки Укр. НДІРСіГ, започатковані в 50-х роках ХХ ст.
В статье методом историко-научного анализа освещён жизненный и творческий путь выдающегося отечественного учёного в области семеноводства и семеноведения сельскохозяйственных культур Ивана Григориевича Строны. На примере его научных работ рассмотрены периодыорганизации и становления отечественного семеноведения. Рассмотрена деятельность первой вистории бывшего Советского Союза лаборатории семеноводства и семеноведения Институтарастениеводства им. В.Я. Юрьева НААН (бывшего Укр. НИИРСиГ). Доказано исторически решающую роль первого руководителя названой лаборатории. Показано весомые достижения научноисследовательской работы сотрудников лаборатории более чем за столетний период.
