Розглянуто способи проникнення живопису в літературу. Досліджено вплив імпресіонізму на принципи моделювання дійсності в літературних творах про художників. Здійснено порівняльний аналіз техніки «живопису словом» у новелі О. Кобилянської «Valse melanсolique» і романі О. Вайльда «Портрет Доріана Грея».
The article deals with the ways of the penetration of painting into literature. The influence of impressionism on the principles of reality modeling in the literary works about artists has been investigated. It promoted psychologization and using a new technique of writing such as “painting with words”. The writers of the turn of the century refuse description, detalization, stereotypes and try to convey the world through the eyes of their heroes, firstof all the representatives of painting. The image of an artist makes writers themselves to appeal to “painting”, using the means of the other kind of art. Such manifestations of new tendencies are revealed in the short story by O. Kobylianska “Valse melanсolique” and the novel by O. Wilde “The Portrait of Dorian Gray”. Both writers avoid detailed descriptions, reduce the amount of heroes to a minimum and condense the contents of the text into a set of “pictures”, drawing attention to the emotional c&harge of a word. Some additional meaning get colours in the analyzed literary texts. It has been proved that the artists use colours as a means of rendering the authors attitude to the depicted, making the psychological states of the heroes more dist&inct, creating certain associations or an appropriate emotional tension, atmosphere, a hint at the following developing of the events, etc. To convey the moods of the heroes, especially in the period of the biggest emotional experiences, the authors &also use short, expressive, abrupt phrases, which are like the strokes of the brush. A great number of mentioning the artists and their pictures as well as introduction the painting terms into the text add much to the intensifying the interconnection& between the literary texts and painting.
