The article is devoted to the analysis of the specific features of the influence that Cezanne’s painting made on D. H. Lawrence’s mature prose. To that effect, the connection between the revolutionary innovation of the French artist and the artistic concept of the British writer, which is reflected in his critical essays and &prose of the 1920s, is traced. It was found out that the forms of the presence of Cezanne’s aesthetics in the narrative space of D. H. Lawrence’s stories, novelettes and novels of the specified period are diverse: from precedent nominations to indire&ct ekphrases and formal principles of the visual image creating. It is proved that their function is, for the most part, to generate meaning in the creative works: the writer is linked to the work of Cezanne by the idea of the intuitive consciousness& that overcomes the established mental-visual cliches and enables anyone to grasp the true reality in all its permanent fluidity and completeness. Through such a prism, D. H. Lawrence’s creative understanding of the problems of photographic vision, t&otal visualization and the fear of the “procreative” body is considered.
