У статті робиться комплексний та цілісний розгляд основних аспектів розуміння природи любові у промові одного з спікерів платонівського "Бенкету" - Агафона. Доводиться, що, на думку даного промовця, любов володіє справедливістю, вона не може бути протиправною та йти проти закону і творити безлад. Також відзначається, що Агафон амбівалентно дивиться на онтологічний взаємозв"язок любові та страху: він свідчить про близьку спорідненість цих феноменів так і про пряму суперечливість їх. Висвітлюється, що любов, згідно погляду даного учасника платонівського діалогу, неминучу супроводжує страждання і ніжність. З"ясовується, що любов володіє потужним гносеологічним потенціалом, що допомагає людині значно краще пізнавати світ, оточуючих та саму себе.
