M.Gogol who was born and spent his childhood and youth in Ukraine did not get tired to study Ukrainian folk creative works, write folk songs, legends and narrations which he considered to be an inexhaustible source for his own works. This connection can be noticed especially well in the early works of the writer, in his stories on the Ukrainian themes which formed his first two collections “Evenings in the farmstead near Dikanka” and “Myrhorod”. This is mentioned in the research.
