У статті розглянуто специфіку концепції риторики одного з фундаторів за-
хідноєвропейської середньовічної схоластики Алкуїна Йоркського. Встановлено, що практичний характер риторики дає можливість пристосувати її і до християнсь-
кого віровчення, і додержавотворчої діяльності, а також взаємозв"язок риторики і
діалектики щодо винаходу матеріалу промови в розробці аргументів як для захис-
ту позиції оратора, так і для її спростування.
The article deals with the specifics of the concept of rhetoric one of the founders of
medieval scholasticism Alcuin of York. Emphasized, that the practical nature of rhetoric
provides the ability to adapt it to Christian doctrine and state activities, and the relationship
of rhetoric and dialectic in the inventionof the material of speech in the development of
argument both to defend the position of the speaker and for its refutation.
