The article is dedicated to the problems of the national culture, especially the problems of ukrainian language and education, in "Diaries", articles and public appearances of O. T. Gonchar, who disturbed about the futureof the ukrainian nation. It deals with the problems, which were actual and urgent both fifty years ago and today.
