In the article the specificity of literature reception and figure of T. Shevchenko is highlighted. This reception was constantly subjected to semantic distortions, intended to poet"s adaptation to the needs of the policy of the Communist Party that was depriving him of defining characteristics of national and artistic identity an&d leveling his philosophical concepts. The experience of professional Shevchenko studies, which was formed at the beginning of the twentieth century, was neglected and performed abroad. All this is explained by the fear of the Soviet system before th&e universe of T. Shevchenko, which interpreted him differently. This was also reflected in the literature of "socialist realism" (a typical example is the dramatic poem "Shevchenko and Chernyshevsky" by P. Tychyna). Despite party"s interpretation of &T. Shevchenko"s masterpieces, there appeared works in which he arise in the immanent sense. For example the story "In Weeds" by S. Vasilchenko, the unrealized meganovel "From the family of geniuses" by G. Hotkevich and especially the novel "In the st&eppe beyond the Ural " by Zinaida Tulub.
