Проаналізовано процес централізованого "створення" і пропаганди "культу лицарства" англійським королем Едуардом ІІІ (1327-1377) як інструменту для досягнення військових і політичних цілей. Вагомим аспектом дослідження є аналіз поглядів британської історіографії щодо передумов, мотивів і процесу інституційного оформлення лицарського ордену Підв"язки. Виокремлено дискусійні питання та прогалини у вивченні цього феномена, з"ясування яких дасть змогу визначити поля впливів "культу лицарства" на конкретні віхи англійського життя, політики та суспільства. Подано оцінку проектам та ідеям популяризації потрібних лицарських ідеалів у володіннях династії Плантагенетів та за її межами. Одним із предметів дослідження є пояснення парадоксу дієвості "культу лицарства" на тлі занепаду феодальної лицарської армії в Англії. Висвітлено комплекс факторів навколо короля Едуарда ІІІ у контексті моделювання претензій на домінування у Європі шляхом переоцінки ролі лицарського стану як засобу консолідації союзників та нівелювання противників у тилу.
The article deals with the process of the centralized creation and promotion of the "cult of chivalry" by Edward III (1327-1377) as a lever in achieving military and political goals. An important aspect of research is the a&nalysis views of British historiography concerning the background, motives and process of institutionalizing the knights of the Garter. Selected controversial issues and gaps in the study of this phenomenon, the elucidation of which will allow to det&ermine the field effects of the "cult of chivalry" at specific milestones of English life, politics, and society. The projects and ideas to promote chivalric ideals in the realm of the Plantagenets and beyond are evaluated. An important subject of th&e study is the explanation of the paradox of eficiency the "cult of chivalry" in the background of the decline of the feudal knights" armies in England. The author highlighted a set of factors around king Edward III in the context of modeling claims &to dominance in Europe through a revaluation of the role of the knightly class as a means of consolidating allies and eliminate enemies in the rear.
